As the year draws to a close and a new year waits in the wings, it is an opportune time to take a look at your life, assessing what no longer serves you and now needs to be dropped, as well as what your new focus and direction can be to creating what it is you really want in the journey ahead. ..
Let’s start by taking a look at your life’s purpose and direction. When embarking on any journey it’s best to have a clear goal or destination in mind. Without a destination how do we decide what road to take? So, what is it you really want? Or let me narrow down the question: what do you really, really, really want?
Seems a simple question, doesn’t it? If I’d asked you to tell me what you really don’t want on the road ahead you probably wouldn’t have any problem in giving me a whole list in a few moments! So why is it so difficult on the other hand to define what it is you really, really, really want?
The answer is simple; because you, like most people, live from your mind. And the mind is basically a survival tool, focused on keeping you out of danger and in bodily comfort, but knows nothing of real joy or love. Knowing what you don’t want is what comes easy to the mind, while knowing what you really want is an area of difficulty and fogginess for the mind.
If you are honest, what you really, really, really want is not a ‘something’ but rather a feeling – a feeling in the heart, rather than a ‘thing’ in the head.
For many people, the first thought in answering this question is “I want happiness.” But what is happiness? And who is the ‘I’ who wants this? Surely happiness is a judgement of the mind, and a ‘hope’ of things in the world lining up the way the mind wants them to for its egoic comfort and security?
But let’s look a little deeper: The first ‘really’ in this question relates to what your ego wants, and the second ‘really’ pertains to what you have been socially conditioned to believe you should be, do or have to live a fulfilled life. But neither of these two interests me here, as they are transitory and circumstantial in nature. Going deeper we see that what your heart really wants is a feeling, isn’t it? While your mind generally wants ‘stuff’ and situations or achievements, the heart wants the end result of all of that, which is a feeling.
Take a moment to sit back in your chair and take a deep breath in, and then let it all go, with a long out-breath… Now ask yourself what it is your heart, not your mind, really wants?
A feeling of inner contentment? A feeling of loving and being loved unconditionally? A feeling of deep inner peace?
So maybe there we have a real goal. Now we can make directional choices as we move forward into 2020.
Now let’s take a look back on this year. What has blocked you from achieving this over last year? Yes, I’m sure the mind can think of a million reasons why peace and love and inner contentment was an impossibility this year. However, I’m going to suggest that all these mind generated reasons are just that – mind generated. And that the only ‘thing’ which has blocked reaching that goal this last year and in fact your whole life, has been your mind, with its judgement and resistance to what is. Sit with that for a moment and see if you can relate to that. You see it’s not the boss that’s a problem. It’s your thoughts about the boss that has disturbed your peace. It’s not your partner or even your ex that has robbed you of peace this year; it’s your thoughts about him/her that have robbed you of peace. It’s not even the government or the weather that’s prevented you from being at peace this year; it’s your thoughts about the government, or weather, or the world, that’s been the real culprit!
In truth it’s been your mental resistance to life and the direction and flow of life, which has created the real experience of stress/lack/dis-ease, has it not?
Realising this is the first step on a new path – a Journey of Awakening.
DROPPING UN-FORGIVENESS – the key to getting what you really, really, really want.
If peace, love and inner contentment are what you really, really, really want, then your job now is to start removing all the barriers within you to this. Blocks such as fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy, guilt, grief and resentment now need to be dissolved and released once and for all. But the biggest blocks to inner peace and love is unforgiveness – of yourself self – as well as others!
Forgiveness is about radiating so much light in your heart that all past karma is dissolved, and you are now able live your life going forward – light and free!
Practicing these simple steps every morning and every evening will bring rapid transformation:
This festive season, make forgiveness and peace your purpose!
The primary work over the festive season is to start to make what is more important than what isn’t; to make the present more important to you that either past or future: To make PEACE your PURPOSE
