We close our hearts to protect ourselves from being hurt. But does this strategy really work? Does it enable us to live full, joyous lives, interactive in meaningful ways and enriching the lives of those we meet? We will we look back on our lives and say, yes, that was a great strategy?
No of course not. Only by being vulnerable can we truly open ourselves to love.
In order to heal the wounds of the past we have to be willing to be hurt in our own understandings of love, again and again, until we discover what love really is. We have to remain open no matter what the circumstances are. We have to be courageous enough to face our shadow self and dissolve all the barriers we have constructed within our selves to love. Only then can we live totally IN LOVE.
Here is a beautiful 15 minute meditation by the Brahma Kumaris to help in opening your heart and discovering your true Being.
Listen to this every day, preferably before starting your day, for 7 days, and what your life start to reflect your new opening heart.
A THING CALLED LOVE
Many people look to a ‘thing’ called ‘love’ to fulfill their needs, to paper over their insecurities and lack of self-worth. The idea that love is a thing that can be given and received has been sold to us by a world of control and commercialism, where everything that is sacred is made into a commodity with promises of personal fulfillment that must be earned and ultimately paid for.
This concept of love is an illusion, and as such always delivers disillusionment and pain to the seeker after it. Things are always time-bound objects of mind, while love is formless and timeless and can only be known as ‘felt-experience’ in the heart. While the mind is always about more, the heart connects us with the very depth and fullness of life in this moment. The more ‘in love’ we are, the more present we are and the more connected we are to all that is.
While most people seek happiness in ‘more’ – more stuff, more love, more future – happiness is to be found in the depth of life, here and now. Cease the seeking, the wanting of more, and find the joy in what already is.
What drives seeking is the disconnected mind, with its preoccupation with time, (past and future). However, where we experience happiness is in the present, in the heart.
TIME BLOCKS LOVE
It is the predominance of time in our awareness that shuts us off, disconnects us from the power of the heart. Time is a function of the brain, while presence is the divine gift of the heart. Did you know that the heart forms two weeks before the brain? Did you know that the heart emits a magnetic field 5,000 times greater in strength than the field generated by the brain, and can be detected up to 10 feet beyond the physical body in all directions? There is strong evidence to suggest that it is the heart, not the brain, which is the primary organizing centre for the body.
LOVE IS BEING
Love is not a thing, but a Field, a Field of Presence, and Love is our true nature, our very Being.
REMOVE TIME, DISSOLVE FEAR
As we know, the antithesis of love is fear, (False Evidence Appearing Real). Fear arises from an attachment to the egoic sense of self. This mind created ‘self’ is extremely vulnerable, and subject to the ravages of opinion, time and death. The attachment to this transitory illusion of self for our identity is the root cause of all our suffering, and needs to be released in order for us to experience the true love we seek.
This attachment gets dissolved as we gradually awaken and remember who and what we really are.
This is our primary life purpose whilst here on Earth.
It is a return to love.
This is the journey of awakening.
LOVE LIKE THE SUN SHINES
Think on this: The sun shines without doing. It radiates light and heat, it doesn’t do light and heat. In fact when we say the sun gives us light and heat, this is misleading, as radiation is natural and requires no effort. It is an expression of essence, rather than a ‘doing’. This is how it is with love.
“Even after all this time the sun never says to the earth, ‘You owe me.’ Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.” – Hāfiz PERSIAN POET
